Best Canary Islands Beaches

The good annual temperatures at Canary Islands, 20º of average in winter, allow visitors and locals to enjoy the beach during the whole year. So if you plan to visit the islands it’s a great idea to spend a day of sun and relax on one of its hundreds of beaches.

 

Las Canteras, a beach in the heart of the city

This beach is located in Gran Canaria, in the capital, Las Palmas. Its more than 3 kilometers of white sand are accompanied by a promenade where you can jog, stroll or enjoy a lunch or dinner overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. If you enjoy surfing or bodyboarding you can find your corner on this beach, next to the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium you will find “La Cicer”, a comfortable wave that normally reaches between one meter and one meter and a half height.

The quality of its waters and the cleanliness of the environment have enabled it to obtain the “Q” Flag of Tourism Quality and the Blue Flag of the European Union. In addition, Las Canteras has a Certificate of Universal Accessibility  for people with reduced mobility and an ISO14001 Certificate for its Environmental Management System.

TripAdvisor qualifies this enclave as one of the 10 best beaches in Spain and users place it in the first position of “things to do” in the city of Las Palmas.

El Cofete, 12 kilometers beach to get lost

At Fuerteventura you will find El Cofete, one of the best virgin beaches in Spain. Its golden sand and the wild nature that surrounds it makes it a spectacle for any traveler. Its crystalline waters and the tranquility that is breathed invites to take long walks bordering the shore.

Bathers should be cautious if they do not know the currents of this place and stay near the shore.

If you like photography you will find an extraordinary scenario to generate unique memories.

El Cofete is the second Canarian beach that is among the top 10 in Spain according to TripAdvisor, its users place it in the first position of “things to do” in Morro Jable.

 

Playa de Las Vistas, Sea and leisure

In the municipality of Arona, in Los Cristianos we find this beach distinguished with Blue Flag by the European Union and surrounded by establishments of restoration and leisure. This spot of golden sand and calm waters allows you to rest and enjoy numerous water sports.

With a length of more than 850 meters access to it is very easy both by car and on foot and has access for people with reduced mobility.

Las Vistas is surrounded by other beaches and connected to them through a promenade that allows you to walk comfortably and enjoy the sea breeze.

The inclusion of containment dikes makes it a very safe beach for the little ones, and its artificial island with a source of sea water is a real attraction for the whole family.

 

Lanzarote, Papagayo

In the south of Lanzarote you will find Papagayo, a white sand beach with great beauty. Its bay or shell shape shelters emerald clear waters that are usually very calm. The great amount of marine fauna of the place will delight the divers.

Perfect to go alone or with whole family, suitable place for the bath by the stillness of its currents..

The sunsets at Papagayo are especially beautiful due to their views of the neighboring island.

The beauty of the place has led to it being among the 10 “things to do” in Lanzarote according to TripAdvisor users.

 

El Verodal, red sand

At El Hierro, at the west end you will find this red sand beach of about 250 meters in length. The reddish colors of the environment next to a clean sea make it a quiet and memorable place for visitors. The swell is usually intense on this coast so you should be cautious when taking a bath.

Next to this beach is a small construction that is used as a picnic area and that allows to rest in the shade to the visitors.

Playa La Calera, a space for whole family

On the island of La Gomera lies La Calera Beach, also known as Valle Gran Rey Beach, a quiet place with black sand that forms the largest sand coasts on the island.

Its clean waters, its black sand and the tranquility of the enclave make it a great choice for the whole family. Especially beautiful are the sunsets from this corner.

Valle Gran Rey is one of the tourist centers of La Gomera, however its character as a small town makes it a destination of disconnection and relaxation.

 

Playa Nogales, in wild nature

It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the north of La Palma, it combines mountain landscape, vegetation and ocean. The access to the beach requires a small effort by the descent through a long series of steps.

The black sand with blue and grayish tones generates a very characteristic print of volcanic zones. It is the ideal destination for surf lovers or people looking for tranquility and privacy. Strong currents are common and bathers must take precautions.

Bathing next to a cliff admiring an almost intact natural environment is possible at this corner in La Palma.
